Pet Industry Forum 2018

The Pet Industry Forum 2018 event will take place on Tuesday 27 November at Whittlebury Hall, nr Towcester, Northamptonshire, NN12 8QH

The Forum attracts all pet businesses, in particular manufacturers and retailers, for an afternoon of talks, learning, networking and social opportunities. It is the perfect opportunity for businesses to make new contacts, renew existing ones and take back hints, tips and advice to help their business thrive.

14.10 UK & US Grocery – State of the Nation - Simon Wainwright, Institute of Grocery Distribution.
Simon will provide a UK economic overview, looking at its impact on shopper behaviour, shifting dynamics and its implications for channel distribution. He will also look at retail trends in the US, and give specific insight into pet care.   This talk is generously sponsored by Mars Petcare.

14.55 The Impact of ‘Brexit’ on the UK Pet Industry - Michael Bellingham, Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association
Currently 80% of PFMA members export to the EU and 60% to the rest of the world. In addition, the UK pet food industry employs a workforce of 100,000 people across the EU that benefits the UK greatly. The impact of ‘Brexit’ on our industry is likely to be felt across all sectors for years to come and Michael will examine some of these issues in this particularly significant talk.

15.15 Trading Places – the view from the EU of post-Brexit trade - Gebhard Mang, Business Advisor for German pet companies
As a German, working closely with German pet companies but also with working knowledge of the UK pet industry, Gebhard is well placed to talk about how European businesses view the UK’s ‘Brexit’ and what they think the future holds for pet companies this side of the channel.

16.00 Strategies for dealing with non-specialist competition - Corin Birchall, Kerching Retail
This session will look at what a non-specialist does well, and what it cannot deliver effectively, and examines how pet specialist businesses can lever this to their advantage through specialism, authority and expertise.

16.30 Where will pet owners buy healthy, happy pets in the future?
A variety of speakers from industry, welfare groups and the veterinary profession will deliver short presentations in answer to this question which affects each and every one of us who depend on a thriving pet industry for our livelihood.
