British Dog Groomers' Association Print E-mail

The British Dog Groomers' Association is part of the Pet Care Trust and represents groomer members by providing education, training and support. An organisation in its own right, the BDGA is represented on the Trust Board by Julie Harris and Gill East.

Upon joining, all groomer members promise to abide by the BDGA's code of Professional Groomers' Charter, a code of practice designed to guarantee the highest standards of customer care and animal welfare. All groomers who are members of the Trust automatically become members of the BDGA.

Philip Langdon, 2008 Groomer of the YearThe centrepiece of the BDGA calendar is annual the British Dog Grooming Championship, where groomers compete for the prestigious title of 'Groomer of the Year'. The 2008 winner was Philip Langdon, of Atastar Poodles near Bristol. Philip is the first ever Groomer of the Year to have won the title three times in the competition's 28-year history. For further details, please go to our events section.

The backbone of the BDGA is its volunteers: ordinary grooming members who give up their time to develop grooming standards and to help new groomers get started. There are ten voluntary regional representatives across the country who work to promote the BDGA by hosting regional events to involve local businesses. The BDGA also attends events such as Eurogroom and Crufts to provide information on training, events and membership. A full list of current regional representatives is available. Many Regional Reps organise local events of interest to groomers. Please go to the events section to see a list of forthcoming dates.
