The Higher Grooming Diploma is an advanced test to demonstrate the expertise and skill required from the experienced groomer working in a commercial environment. The Diploma was developed by the British Dog Groomers' Association, which is part of the Pet Care Trade Association. The aim of the scheme is to offer professional groomers the opportunity to gain the Pet Care Trust Higher Grooming Diploma indicating they have achieved an industry recognised professional standard of skills and knowledge. Entry to the examination is open to anyone who has gained the City and Guilds/NPTC 7750 Advanced Dog Grooming Certificate. Various trimming techniques are covered to style a range of dogs. A good working knowledge of the Kennel Club breed standards, styles and trimming techniques are required to pass all components. The full Higher Grooming Diploma will be awarded only to those candidates who reach the required standard in both the practical and written components of the examination. On completion of the full qualification, candidates can apply to join the Guild of Master Groomers. Students who complete two units of the Higher Diploma and have five years vocational experience can apply to City and Guilds for a Licentiateship in Dog Grooming. Further details about the diploma are available and an enrolment form to register for the course can also be downloaded.
The next 2010 Higher Diploma written examination will be held on Wednesday 10 November, at the Pet Care Trust offices in Bedford. The registration form to sit that examination is now available to download. The dates for the practical exams are also available to download.
