Retailers and other professionals within the pet sector may wish to consider becoming an SQP, which enables them, subject to certain conditions to prescribe and supply certain categories of veterinary medicines, mainly parasiticides and other medicines for the routine control of endemic disease. There are four categories of SQP, which cover a range of farm, equine and companion animals. SQPs are able to prescribe and supply POM-VPS and NFA-VPS products for the species in which they have training; they need to have appropriate training and work in registered premises but will be able to operate autonomously. In a further move to extend the training opportunities it offers, in 2010, the PCTA was approved to deliver AMTRA SQP-C training. Offering the time efficient advantage of intensive learning, the training is delivered on the base and companion modules at the PCTA office over a few days, with the final exam taking place on the last day. For further details of costs, please contact the office. |
