The British Kennel & Cattery Association (BKCA) acts as a voice for the licensed kennel and cattery sector with influencers, policy and lawmakers throughout the Kennels and catteries that are already PCTA members are automatically part of the BKCA. Represented on the Board by Directors Pam Gee and Christine Sandiford, BKCA members are seen as the best in the industry, subscribing to the code of practice to guarantee the highest standards of animal care and customer service across the sector. Customers are encouraged to look for the logo to ensure they use a high quality, professional business. The aims of the BKCA are:
- To promote and assist members and to protect the commercial interests of their businesses - To provide for the formation and exchange of views on questions connected with the conduct of the business of its members - To represent, express and give effect to the majority opinions of members on commercial matters of all kinds - To collect and circulate relevant information to members - To establish, promote and monitor standards of good practice across the sector - To provide education, training and support - To represent the sector on law and policy matters
In 2010, Paws for Thought, the official newsletter of the BKCA was launched. With contributions from kennel and cattery members, it looked in detail at issues including kennel cough and out of hours veterinary care, and was well received, Members of the BKCA receive a free copy.
City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in the Operational Principles of Kennels & Catteries The BKCA launched this new qualification in September 2008 for those with responsibility for managing kennels, catteries and re-homing centres in mind. The course is a City & Guilds/NPTC nationally accredited level 3 qualification. Further information can be found here.
